Project: Complete renovation and electrical modernisation
Completed by: JL Electric (Principal Electrical Contractor), Jan 2022 - May 2022

Project Overview

Located on Nice’s Promenade des Anglais, this 70-year-old apartment required a complete electrical overhaul as part of its renovation. The property had last been rewired in 1974, meaning the existing installation needed to be removed and replaced to meet the demands of a modern residential property.

JL Electric was appointed as the principal electrical contractor, responsible for the complete electrical installation throughout the apartment.

Scope of Works

Rewiring & Electrical Infrastructure

The existing wiring was fully removed and replaced, with a new consumer unit installed to meet current NF C 15-100 requirements. Integrated surge protection was also incorporated into the new installation, providing improved protection for the apartment’s electrical systems and equipment.

The renovation also involved transforming existing storage space into a new bathroom and adjacent utility area. This required the electrical circuits to be carefully rerouted, reorganised and load-tested to accommodate the new layout and additional requirements.

Lighting Installation

Lighting formed an important part of the apartment's redesign. JL Electric installed a combination of recessed dimmable downlights, directional bedroom spotlights and under-cabinet task lighting within the reconfigured kitchen.

The installation was designed to work seamlessly with the interior architecture, providing practical illumination while maintaining the clean, contemporary appearance of the renovated spaces.

Underfloor Heating

Zoned electric underfloor heating was installed throughout the living room and bathrooms, with individual digital thermostats allowing each area to be controlled independently.

This provided a more comfortable and flexible heating system while integrating discreetly beneath the finished interiors.

Working Within a Historic Building

One of the key challenges was installing a completely new electrical system within the existing masonry of a 70-year-old property.

Cable routes were carefully chased into the walls using precision techniques and non-invasive drilling methods wherever possible. This allowed the new infrastructure to be installed while minimising disruption to the existing structure and preserving the character of the apartment.

Outcome

The completed electrical installation brought the apartment's infrastructure from a 1970s system to a modern, compliant installation capable of supporting contemporary lighting, heating, appliances and electrical equipment.

From the consumer unit and rewiring through to lighting, heating and controls, JL Electric worked alongside the renovation team to ensure that the electrical infrastructure was integrated cleanly into the finished interior.

The result is a safe, efficient and discreet electrical installation supporting a completely modernised Riviera residence on the Promenade des Anglais.
